A flat belt is a belt with a rectangular section. The purpose of the flat belt is to transfer the mechanical force of one pulley to another, thus allowing for variation of the rotating speed through unit changes. Belts with detachable sections allow for quicker, easier installation, they are adjustable and they noticeably reduce the belt's vibration and noise level. A grooved belt is a belt for ridged power transmission length-wise, which significantly increases the contact surface area between the pulley and the belt, however it operates through the grip of the set of teeth on the pulley. Its single-piece structure allows for the even distribution of pulley/belt contact pressure.
